(1) 天真的小朋友;
(2) 平常想得太多,但依然有童心的大人;
    可是,我覺得不適合以下人士收看:

Is the innocent Ponyo made for the naive?

What is your impression of Hayao Miyazaki’s animation? Opposing to war? Promoting environmental protection? Urging parent-child relationship? Bringing hope to life? However, none of these seem to show up in his latest work “Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea”. I think two kinds of people below will enjoy watching this film:

(1) Innocent children;
(2) Adults who think too much, but still have childlike innocence;

However, I do not think this film is suitable for the following people:
(3) Adults who seem innocent, but actually naive.

Adults in our society are usually naive, but not innocent. They always think a naive person is totally innocent because they have some kind of misconception between “innocent” and “naive”. Therefore, this film should be classified as “Reverse Category III” (for people aged below 18 only) of the three-tier film classification system.

Hayao Miyazaki's animation is supposed to be made for children. However, adults, who think too much in their daily live are also welcome. Animation allows us to extricate ourselves from the reality of daily lives, get us some relaxation and return to the fantasy world of childhood.

Hayao Miyazaki says that animation-making is different from realistic film-shooting, which seems objective but in fact subjective. Realistic film-shooting involves cutting and editing, which unconsciously includes the will of the director or the photographer.

The philosophy of animation of Hayao Miyazaki is somehow insightful. He pointed out that animation has the power to liberate our heart. Therefore “Marx’s Alienation” has not yet appeared in such a high degree of labor-intensive animation industry. Animation is only an art from our bare-handed painting. It cannot hide any political ideology which, in contrast, can always be found in photography and film. Animation is obviously fictitious and is therefore very difficult to deceive you. Watching an animation, having dreamt, and that’s all.
